What Is the PADI Mermaid Program?
The PADI Mermaid Program is an official training system created by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), the world’s leading scuba diving organization. It combines fun, fantasy, and fitness with real aquatic safety skills.

PADI Mermaid Courses
The PADI Mermaid Program includes multiple levels. Each course builds on the previous one, allowing students to progress at their own pace.

Best for: First-time mermaids who want to try it out
What it is: A fun, short introduction to mermaiding under the guidance of a certified instructor.

- No formal certification (experience-based)
Basic Mermaid™
Best for: Beginners who want foundational skills and safety training
What it is: The first official certification level in the PADI Mermaid system.

- Swim without swim aids 25m and tread/float comfortably at the surface for 3 minutes

Mermaid™
Best for: Those ready to take their mermaid skills to the next level
What it is: A more advanced course focusing on underwater skills, endurance, and performance.
Key skills learned:

What it is: A more advanced course focusing on underwater skills, endurance, and performance.
Key skills learned:
- Advanced mermaid swimming and turns
- Duck dives and underwater techniques
- Performance-style movements
- Enhanced safety and buddy awareness
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- PADI Basic Mermaid (or equivalent skills)*NOTE: you DO NOT NEED Basic Mermaid to take Mermaid*
- Swim without swim aids 50m and tread/float comfortably at the surface for 5 minutes
- PADI Mermaid certification
Advanced Mermaid™
Best for: Serious mermaids who want elite skills and deeper training
What it is: An advanced-level course that emphasizes precision, endurance, and professional-level techniques.
Key skills learned:

What it is: An advanced-level course that emphasizes precision, endurance, and professional-level techniques.
